Transportation

Gas prices are above $3.00 per gallon. We have a war in the Middle East with a price tag of $500 billion. Oil alone produces 43% of our total greenhouse gas emissions. Meanwhile the media is filled with hype about ethanol, hydrogen, and hybrid vehicles. Which transportation alternative will truly allow us to reduce pollution and get away from foreign oil?

Renewable Energy

We hear so much about renewable energy, yet renewable sources only account for about 6% of our total energy use. It has been incredibly difficult for renewable options to compete with fossil fuels. Will technologies like wind, solar, and geothermal ever see widespread use?

Nuclear Energy

Nuclear plants produce 20% of our current electrical demand without releasing any greenhouse gases. The technology is proven, safe, and economical. Yet fears still exist about nuclear energy and nuclear waste. Can we learn to put the actual risks of nuclear power in perspective?

Fossil Energy

Coal and natural gas provide two thirds of our electrical power. With abundant domestic supplies of coal, we will continue to depend heavily on this resource. But coal is the most polluting of the different power options. How will we overcome the technical and political roadblocks toward achieving zero emission plants?
